Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be kept long enough for us to respond and maintain the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical details when a visitor loads a page:
- Page-view dates and times
- Your device's assigned IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- The referring site, when one is reported
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved to a device. They and analytics services help us understand traffic in aggregate, including popular pages and where visits end. A browser can reject or remove cookies. Some site functions may respond differently when cookies are blocked.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing technical faults and restoring service
- Operating pages and improving load performance
- Routing a submitted query to the selected search partner
- Measuring which material visitors use and where revisions may help
- Displaying advertising that may reflect inferred interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not build, retain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Northumberland County material identifies official routes maintained by the sheriff, the courts, the Virginia State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal profile, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. A partner's own privacy terms govern information submitted to its tool, including how long it keeps data and when it shares data. We do not direct those practices. Read the provider's policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to courts, law-enforcement agencies, Virginia government systems, legal resources, or third-party search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted ads. Their tracking does not run under this policy.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring site use and performance
- Search providers processing a query you choose to submit
- Advertising networks serving ads on these pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, we will remove it after receiving notice.
Your Data Rights
Privacy and consumer-protection laws where you live may provide rights beyond those listed here. Virginia government-record access is governed by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, while dissemination of criminal-history record information is controlled by Virginia Code § 19.2-389. Those laws govern official custodians, not a right to alter records on this private site. You may still:
- Object to certain forms of data processing
- Request access to personal data we hold about you
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Request deletion of personal data, where applicable
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised policy will appear here with its new effective date, so review this page periodically for the current terms.
